Need I say more?
Before Alana was born, I got the book Babywise in hopes that it would teach me how to help my baby sleep through the night. My reasons for wanting her to sleep through the night aren't selfish: in 3 weeks I have to go back to work and will be driving 45 minutes each way. Alana will be in the car with me. I am scared to death of driving drowsy on the freeway, especially with all the other terrible drivers who go WAY too fast. So I figured that if I could train her to sleep through the night, I'd be ok. My mom warned me that babies come how they come...
Apparently Alana wants to stay up until 2:00 am, and sleep until 9 am, then take long naps during the day. AND she wakes up at least 2 times during the night. She's such a dear baby, but I found myself getting frustrated and worried. The longer I am a mom, the more I see that perhaps Babywise is not the program for us. She's impossible to wake up when she's tired, and if she doesn't want to sleep, then it breaks my heart to let her cry for too long...
So I guess this post is about how being a mom is WAY more difficult than I could have thought, but at the same time I can figure out what is best for my child and not need "experts" to tell me what to do. Here's hoping Alana will at least figure out the difference between day and night!

I'm so sad that I haven't gotten to meet her yet!! I didn't want to bug you by visiting, but when I was assigned to deliver your RS invite I was excited...then I was sad because you weren't home :( I hope you start getting more sleep!
Sleep will come!! We used the babywise program and tailored it to our needs, mostly I just got out of it that it is okay to let them cry for a little (i suppose I didn't have a choice when both would cry ;) and that the eat, wake, sleep cycle is totally worth it!! It was really hard like the first month, becuase all the boys wanted to do was sleep so we let them but we implemented it when they were actually awake for like 10-15 minutes at a time. The boys slept 6 hours at 2 months old and 11 hours at 3 months old. I also heard that they have the ability to hold enough food in their bellies when they are over 11lbs. Every baby is different, and we gave the boys formula at night after breastmilk so they would sleep longer, not that I would recommend doing That but it was the only way to get some sleep and maintain some sanity!! Good luck, and you will find what works best for you and your beautiful little girl!!!
Lol. Ya, we've been there. It won't last forever thank goodness. But once you think they have the hang of sleeping through the night, they will surprise you and start waking up 5 itmes in the night. Ug, that was this last week for me.
