Dearden Christmas '08

Today we participated in the annual Dearden Family Christmas Party. It is always fun to see Stuart's extended family, especially because all the "greats" (great-grandkids) are growing SO fast!
First, we set up the tables. Then, the boys sat around talking about sport for an hour before the party even started. I've decided that women who've had kids can't help talking about child-birth and parenting. It's inevitable when you get a group of mothers together. (I enjoy it, but am much more sensitive to that now, so if you're prone to talking about your birth experience, look around and make sure no one you are talking with will feel awkward and/or left out). In the same way, men will talk about sports. It wasn't long after I was married that I discovered that the man I thought I knew so well knew everything about every sports team and player.
Of course, the preceeding paragraph was just a generalization. Sorry if you don't fit! Alana LOVED Mary's donkey. She got to give it a test ride! :)
I got to be an angel in the nativity story. I've always imagined that I was one of the angels singing the night Christ was born. If not, you can bet I'll be there when He comes again!!

Grandma Dear has a great tradition. Santa comes, and calls each individual Grandchild and "Great" up, and tells a little about them. It is fun for the kids to have him toot their horn, and nice to realize Grandma is aware of our lives. We love her, and are grateful to Dorothy and John, Marian, Mel, and Grannie & Grandpa D. for all they do!

This morning, I decided to let Alana have some toilet time. Meaning, I didn't prevent her from going into the bathroom. I kind of wanted to see what she would do.
My super amazing genius baby can flush the toilet! I knew we were doing a great job raising her, but I've never been prouder (in case you are like some people and can't tell when I'm joking, that was a joke, I think it's funny when people use their blogs to brag about how amazing and perfect their kids are, not that you do, but other people do.)
