Christmas 2010

At about 3 am on Christmas morning, Alana crawled into our bed. She was burning up, but I was so out of it that I didn't think anything of it (yes, I will be accepting nominations for Mom of the Year award.)

Eventually we put her back in her own bed. Charlotte woke up around 7, and we waited until Alana woke up (crying) at 8 am. She was burning up, so we took her clothes off, gave her some tylenol, and lots of water. She wouldn't eat anything. We still tried to get excited about opening presents, but it was pretty anti-climactic.

Alana wasn't that excited about her bike (and still isn't), but Charlotte was (and still is!) The other day Charlotte came up to me and signed "bike." I asked her if she wanted to go ride Alana's bike and she nodded and said "yssss." lol

We stayed home all day, except for Stuart's adventure in trying to find a store open on Christmas Day. Walgreens saved us, since we had run out of children's tylenol, and I also wanted some gatorade to keep her hydrated. Alana's temp climbed above 104 and she was so lethargic, not anything like our energetic child! It was sad.

For about three days, all Alana wanted to do was sleep, and cuddle Mommy (preferably at the same time!) The Tuesday after Christmas she slept about 8 hours of the day, and still went to bed be 9 that night. You can bet I called both my mom and the nurse to make sure she wasn't going to die or anything!

Charlotte woke up Sunday morning with the fever. She recovered much faster than Alana (possibly a benefit of breastfeeding, or maybe because she actually has some fat stores, whereas Alana doesn't?)

On Thursday Alana started getting grumpier again. Both girls got bad colds following the high fevers, with just a low-grade fever. That's what made me think it was influenza. On Friday (New Year's Eve) I took Alana to urgent care and found out she had an ear infection! Yay! I was actually glad she could tell me her ear hurt, and that she took her medicine. She was feeling much less pain the next day!

It was a crazy week, but I sure am glad my babies are healthy again!! And I can't tell you how blessed I feel that I didn't get sick. Having such a high fever and not being about to take medication would not have been good!

I should mention that we were kind enough to leave germs at the Dear Cousin's home. They all got sick the day after Christmas, and we had been there Christmas Eve. We're so good at sharing!

Also, another difficulty I never realized was how draining it can be to be stuck inside with sick kids for 6 days straight! I was glad to get out after that!
