My brother Sam (7th of the 9 kids) got home from his mission to the Dominican Republic on November 5. I knew that Stuart would not be able to travel home until at least next Summer, so I had an idea to ask my brother, Evan, and his wife, Erin (who live in Alabama) if they would want to meet here and drive home with the kids and me for Christmas break. Unfortunately, they had already arranged for time off work during Thanksgiving break. So I decided to join them for that, and they graciously agreed. So the Saturday before Thanksgiving, at 1 AM, Evan and Erin arrived and loaded into my van with my kids and we drove home to Salt Lake. We were stuck in Laramie for 2 hours due to a deadly car accident on I-80 (the wind was blowing snow across the freeway, it was terrible!), but other than that it was a successful trip (oh, and the time that Esther wouldn't stop screaming for 30 minutes, but that's just everyday life for us). The trip only took 23 hours on the road, so it was great!
The kids and I stayed at Stuart's parents' home, which is about a mile from my parents' house, so we got to see a lot of our family.
I was able to visit the temple TWICE! (Once by myself to do initiatories, and once to be there while my baby brother, Gordan, received his Endowment in preparation for his mission to to Fort Worth, Texas in February). It was glorious.
I have lots more pictures and lots more to write about, but the kids and I really enjoyed seeing family and friends! I missed Stuart terribly the entire time though! I don't think I'll make a trip like that again without him, at least not until the kids are older!
Stay tuned for another post with more details.
