As I've mentioned before, Stuart and I don't sleep on the same bed. This weekend I decided I was tired of not sleeping on the same bed as my husband, and I was determined that Esther would sleep in a different bed. Also, she has been kicking in her sleep and I often have Seth in the bed with me, and I'm scared she is going to kic him.
On Saturday I rocked her to sleep and put her in the bed that Stuart has been sleeping on. Stuart and I went to sleep in the same bed for the first time in months. Seth was sleeping in his pack n play in the living room, but he has had a cold all week, so he woke up not long after I went to sleep. Stuart brought him to me. Not long after I had fallen asleep again, Esther woke up. Stuart traded places with her and she fussed for a bit, then fell back asleep.
The next day I talked with Esther about how she needs to sleep in her own bed. She told me that she gets too scared to sleep by herself. I don't have the energy to fight with her about it, or try and train her. Besides, if she gets scared at night (a common thing for 3-5 year olds) then having her in bed with me is the easiest way to deal with it.
So we'll keep plugging along, hoping that someday all our kids will let us get a full night's sleep. Someday.
