Updates

For your enjoyment: just some info on our lives the past week or two.

1. The Daddy has been interviewing with accounting firms. We'll let you know how that goes, wish him luck!

2. Baby Girl really LOVES to watch kids. She also loves to grab their faces and hands. She gets really excited by other small people, it is really cute. In fact, when I was visiting teaching yesterday, she kept trying to grab Spencer. He was clinging to his mom because I suppose BG is sort of aggressive. Megan says she thinks that's just the difference between boys and girls, it's pretty cute though. I always think she's so small, but I think she's actually a giant. Kids months older than her are shorter...she didn't get those genes from me, that much is certain! :)

3. Baby girl wants to skip crawling and is working on standing and walking. Let's just say the balance isn't there. Grannie Dearden mentioned that kids who skip crawling often have trouble later with reading, so I looked it up being the worried mom that I am. Apparently, it's the same reflex that causes no crawling and poor reading, but just because a baby skips crawling doesn't mean they won't read. Phew! We're still working on the crawling thing, but we've got at least a couple more months before she really should be crawling. She's almost got the hang of scooting though, which is fun to watch! She gets pretty frustrated when she can't reach something, and I have to stop myself from just giving it to her. I sometimes have a better understanding of how Heavenly Father helps us grow. I'm glad he doesn't just give us stuff because we're crying for it. Otherwise we wouldn't grow and learn nearly as much.

4. I ran a 5K last weekend and it was fun. I won't post my time, but I'll just say I'm not as fast as I used to be. Oh well.

5. Baby girl loves laces and cords. Here is a pic of her eating Grandpa D's shoelaces. Maybe I should not let her do that. I'm paranoid she'll wrap a cord around her neck and strangle herself. Are all mothers as paranoid as I am? Just curious.

6. I finished "Peter and the Secret of Rundoon" by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. It was fantastic. I recommend the entire series, starting with "Peter and the Starcatchers." Yes, I'm addicted to children's fantasy.

7. For FHE we drove up to the canyon to see the fall colors. It will probably be much more brilliant in a week or two, but still very beautiful

8. I am really confused about the impending election. Meaning, I just feel that everything I see and read is a ploy of the media to get Obama in the White House. I think I like Obama. I think I like Palin. I'm not as sure about McCain and Biden. I'm tired of the media (i.e. CNN, Fox news, MSNBC) provided such a one-sided view. I'd really like some completely neutral reporting. Hopefully the debate this Friday will help me decide. Most people seem to think the same thing I'm thinking "Which candidate will be "less bad?"" By the way, I'm not a Republican (SHOCK!!!) Don't worry, I'm not a Democrat either(not that it's bad to be one). Not to be rude to anyone reading this who hasn't actually at least looked at our country's Constitution, but I'm a little annoyed with the average citizen who has little or no knowledge about how our government was intended to work (and by the way, gay rights are left up to the state because the US Constitution clearly states that anything not stipulated by the US Constitution would be left up to the states, i.e. states rights, i.e. the actual major reason for the Civil WAR.) SO, despite what you think, it would be really hard for a president of the U.S. to legalize gay marriage (but not impossible, but amendments are hard to pass).

Whew, sorry about the political ramble. I welcome debates or more info, btw. I'm not a know-it-all... :)

Alana sure is a cutie. And I like that you call her Baby Girl, because I sort of do the same with Caleb. When he's fussing and wants to eat, I say to him, "Let's go feed the hungry baby." I think I call him "baby" more than "Caleb," which could make it hard for him to learn his own name, but I think he'll manage.

I am definitely with you on your last point. Who the heck are we supposed to vote for? I'm SOOO sick of campaigning. To me it seems like both Obama and McCain are a lot of talk, but I haven't really yet heard any plans! They say they are going to do all of these great things and I am thinking to myself, "Okay, how". Our countries in a huge financial crisis but you're just going to pull money out of you butt to pump in to everything? Phew... I hope that the debates will give more insight as well!

I think that being paranoid comes with being a mom. I guess it is trait that God wanted us to have so we wouldn't let our babies to crazy things-- not that they don't anyway. I'm glad to hear you have some paranoid issues. My latest is that I"m afraid our house will light on fire-- irrational, I know. But you understand:)

What an adorable little girl you have! She is getting big fast! I would have to say that I am a paranoid mother too. I think it is okay for now. It is good to make sure you have made sure that things around her are safe. One idea to help make sure your house is safe for your little girl is to get down on your hands and knees and crawl around and see if you see any little things on the floor that she might put in her mouth or what things you can see from your angle that you might not see otherwise. I heard that a while ago, and thought it was a pretty good idea to do every once in a while.

Anyway, thanks for all of the comments on my blog! I love reading them as well as reading how your little girl is doing! You are a good mom! Keep up the good work!
