Alana October 2011

I'd like to start posting about each of our children at least once a month.

This month has been a bit difficult for Alana. Emotions at always difficult to self regulate, and she gets upset pretty easily, especially when she does something she isn't supposed to do, like draw on the walls or spill water all over the bathroom. I am learning to ask before scolding first, because she's often trying to do something she considers helpful when she makes a mess! I'm hoping that the mood swings that prevail in her life will be completely cleansed from her system before the teenage years arrive. She swings between "you're the best mommy in the world for letting me watch movies and have candy," and "Fine, if I can't watch a movie right now then I am marching outside and not ever coming back inside." I'm learning not to take it personally and to enjoy the times when she tells me I'm awesome.

I'm also learning how to dwell on the positive with her. At the end of the day we almost always talk about our "sads and glads." I always end with more glads than sads and try to leave her in bed on a happy note. Of course, we've had to bribe her to stay in bed lately. ;)

Alana loves to climb and jump all over our furniture. She is a great little singer and loves to sing songs to our baby Esther, especially songs that she makes up!

Lately Alana has loved being in "nature". What am I saying? She has always loved nature! We had lots of pets snails and hugs this summer and fall. She loves to pick all the berries growing on different plants around the neighborhood. Then she squishes them under her shoes.

Alana is a joy and a challenge. She is so talkative to everyone we see on our walks or at the store. She makes friends so quickly and loves to tell people everything that is going on in her life.

I am trying every day to give her lots of love and praise her for the good things she does!
