Like many of you, I love the month of May. The weather is great, Stuart & I get to celebrate our anniversary (YAY! 4 great years and we still love each other!) and May has always held happy memories for me (end of the school year, Senior Ball with Stuart, coming home from college and job hunting...etc)
I realized with posting about Stuart's graduation that it was a milestone for our blog. Yep, our blog is 2 years old! Happy Blogday! To commemorate, here is a link to our first post (kind of boring, but we'll still take your advice!), and the post that reminded me it had been 2 years (yes, it took my 5 years to get my bachelor's degree, but in my defense I spent the entire last year teaching school to certify) Woot!
My friend Heather has been blogging about cloth diapering, and I have a couple of other friends that use cloth diapers. Initially I wondered who would even consider. I mean...gross. But after looking into it, and Becky showing me what diapers she uses, I think it might be a really great investment. I mean, we're planning on having 4 kids or so (subject to change) and many cloth diapers have inserts so you only need to buy 8-10 diaper covers, and a bunch of inserts. There are methods for preventing stink, toilet swishing, and removing stains. Our only problem is that we don't have a washer and dryer in our apartment, and cloth diapers require doing laundry every 2-3 days. I wouldn't mind that if I could just throw them in the washer, but it costs $1.50 for every load, and I have to leave the apt., even if it's in the same building. That could get expensive. I have been reading websites about cloth diapering, and checking out different products, but I'm still kind of lost as to where to start. I know I don't want bulky, safety-pin fastened diapers. I don't want to knit my own soakers and spray them with Lanolin. But I also feel a little guilty every time I throw a diaper away, and want to do something to save ourselves money in the long run, and also to help the environment.
If you think I'm nuts, here is a good site to read. Also, try Cotton Babies.
Even with the plethora of info, I still feel a little lost, and I don't want to invest and embark on this and then HATE it. So, it anyone uses cloth diapers, or knows someone who does, will you help me?
One last site.

We have to go to the laundromat twice a week for our diapers. I was planning on blogging about it next week and how it works out for us.
I think this may be a really good idea. I, too, have always had the GROSS impression when it comes to cloth diapers. However, we do spend about$40 a month on diapers for one child. When we have a second one that will at least double or triple for a while. This is something that I might just have to research more and think about. Thanks for the great links. If you decide to try this let me know!
