concussion

Esther fell off the bunk bed ladder on Saturday night. I was talking on the phone with my mom, which I don't do very often, when I heard the thump and the scream. Immediately I flashed back to when she broke her arm in July and I ran to the room and told my mom "Esther fell I gotta go." I scooped Esther into my arms and tried to ascertain how bad the injury was. It was nearing bedtime and she had been extra tired all day so it was difficult to tell if the intensity of her crying was due to her fall or the fact that she was exhausted.

Esther was holding her head and screaming "owie" over and over, just like when she broke her arm. Esther falls A LOT so knowing when she is really hurt is a challenge. But this felt different. After 10 or so minutes of screaming (her, not me), she fell asleep. She slept for about 2 hours, then woke up complaining of her head hurting. Then she vomited. I was kind of panicked. But she said she felt better after throwing up, so I didn't take her in.

Sunday morning Esther woke up whining that her head hurt. We got ready and started driving to Stake conference, which was 30 minutes away. N the way, she vomited again. We decided to visit the ER. At the ER they did a CT scan and didn't find anything, but told us it was likely a mild concussion.

Stuart and I keep hoping that our kids will learn their lesson and stop jumping off of things. In that way they kind of make us crazy. Hopefully this was the worst of the head injuries!
