Little Girl is a pretty happy toddler, but we definitely have the "normal" toddler behavior, if you know what I mean (i.e. tantrums, hitting, bitting, throwing herself on the ground and banging her head!). I found this video about Dr. Harvey Karp's program "The Happiest Toddler on the Block." I watched "The Happiest Baby on the Block" when I was pregnant with Little Girl, and I liked the ideas. He really seemed to know what he was talking about.
But I'm not sure how I feel about this program for Toddlers. It seems like you wouldn't want to talk to your child like he/she is a neaderthal. Maybe I'll try it the next time a tantrum comes up!

Hmm...that is interesting, and definitely worth a try! ;)
I might have to get those books. Max has been a really happy toddler, but Fox is already a different story.

Have you thought about it being a food sensitivity? I have a friend whose 20 month old goes into screaming tantrums all the time whenever she has red dye #40. They cut that out and the tantrums went away. They actually cut it out a while ago, but when the summer came, she gave her daughter Otter Pops and the tantrums came back. When she cut out the Otter Pops, it went away again. There's a lot out there about how #40 affects kids.
Heather-I guess it could be food sensitivity, but we don't really eat manufactured foods very often. Plus the tantrums usually happen when she wants something she can't have, like watching "Elmo" or eating a cookie. I'm just looking for strategies. I could try more distraction, but I'm not sure about that strategy either, because sooner or later she's going to have to learn how to deal with not getting her way, and there won't always be someone there to say "let's go play outside," or "Let's read a book."
