A walk in the park

The other day DH needed 3+ hours of solitude to take a practice GMAT, so Big Sister and I commissioned Aunt J to join us on an outing. We ended up going to a nearby canyon, where there is a nice creek and a great park! It was nice to have J do most of the lifting of the small child, as my back has been a little sore! (Gotta remember to lift with my legs, and squat instead of bend!)

Here are some of the cute pictures I took of Lana and Julie playing in the creek. Big Sister kept sucking water (and moss) off the rocks. Then I asked her if she needed a drink and she just bent down and sipped from the stream. Good thing I'm not one of those paranoid mothers...ha ha! (I'll be honest, I wasn't too thrilled about her drinking that water, I wondered: "can she get dysentary from this?" Luckily she's had her rotavirus vaccine!) Don't worry, no signs of gastro-intestinal problems with this little girl!





As a side note: there was a family also playing at the park. A grandma, her daughters, and grandchildren. The younger daughter, who seemed unmarried, questioned her older sister "so I'm just supposed to get married, have kids, and that's it?"

I just cringe when I hear comments like that. First of all, if I do nothing more in my life than raise kind, intelligent, spiritually strong children, I will have considered my life an overwhelming success! Second, "you can't draw water from an empty well." In order to be a good wife and mother, you must have things to do that rejuvenate you. I am a firm believer in this. But I am getting a little tired of motherhood being so belittled by society in general. I LOVE my job, and I can't think of anything more important that I could do than what I am doing! Can you?
