We are in the Prairie Grove, Arkansas ward. A ward is an LDS congregation determined by geographical boundaries. All the leaders of our church are volunteer (no one gets paid) and the leader of our particular ward is called a Bishop. Our ward covers the towns of Lincoln, Prarie Grove, Farmington (where we live), and part of Fayetteville.
When we were still in Utah and had secured a place to live once we moved here, we called the bishop to let him know we would be coming and to put us to work. He certainly did! Stuart has been working with the young full-time missionaries, and I oversee the musical efforts in the ward. There are 3 women in the ward who play the organ and piano, and about 3 more who just play the piano. But because of the callings (positions the bishop asks people to fill in the ward) of some of the other women, I have ended up being the main organist lately. It's a little overwhelming. I am not very good. I have a lot of room for improvement!
Also, I have been directing the choir. I choose music, secure a pianist (which I hate, because all the pianists are busy and I hate asking people to do so much), conduct the practice, and try and get people there. (It's no fun to direct a choir of 3 women!) I don't really feel overwhelmed, just a little stretched. It is a good thing to be needed.
