How we chose the name Charlotte

During the first part of my pregnancy, we were pretty sure we were going to name the baby Ember. But the longer we thought about it, the less we liked it. Of course every name I suggested was a big fat "NO" from DH, so finally I got frustrated and turned over all responsbility for naming our child to him. I was certainly annoyed that he shot down every name I liked. One night, which happened to be the night before the "Dear" family reunion, DH asked Heavenly Father in our prayer to help us figure out a name for this child. It was a simple request, one mostly I think to ease my frustration and remind me that DH wasn't being contrary just to bug me.

The next day we arrived at the reunion, which was for the posterity of DH's paternal grandfather's parents (did you get that, his dad's dad's parents...:)) His great-grandmother was Charlotte, and I remember thinking, that's a cute name. Then every few minutes I would see the sign with her name and think "I really like that name." I liked it more and more every time I looked at it. Finally, I told DH that I thought this baby's name would be Charlotte. He actually didn't hate it, and the name got bonus points for being a family name!

I asked the Girl if she liked the name Charlotte. Her eyes lit up and she said "YEAH!" very enthusiastically. I asked her where Baby Charlotte was, and she pointed to my tummy. I didn't need any more promptings, I knew this baby would be Charlotte. Kind of a simple thing to get revelation about, but later we talked to DH's aunt and she was telling us about her Grandma Charlotte and how she was very soft spoken and shy, but she just had the best sense of humor. I got very excited hearing about her and knowing that our daughter would be named for her great-great-grandmother. When we told Grandpa Dear that we would be naming our baby Charlotte, he teared up. He doesn't speak much anymore, but we could tell he was very happy that his great grand-daughter would be named after his mother.
