Gentle, humble, and easy to be entreated.

We read scriptures as a family every night. Sure there have been a few nights we have missed here and there, but overall we are quite consistent. You would think that our kids would understand the nightly ritual, but it still seems like we fight them quite a bit to sit still and listen and read. Well, Alana is usually fairly attentive, so I guess there is hope for the other 3.

We read about 5-10 verses. The other night we came across Alma 7:23. Stuart and I looked at each other and laughed. Our kids are anything BUT submissive, gentle, and easy to be entreated. They sure give us a run for our money. We decided to make this scripture the theme for our family this year.

23 And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.
24 And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works.

Perhaps verse 24 is the key to achieving a Christ-like character.

Wish us luck!
