In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a baby christening is called a baby blessing. A man who holds the priesthood (given authority by God to perform certain ordinances in the church) takes a child and gives them a name and a blessing. Then the baby's name is on the records of the church.
Stuart has had the opportunity to give each of our children a name and a blessing, and I have always been overjoyed for him to do this! On Sunday, January 4, 2014, he gave Seth a blessing. We named him Seth Alan Dearden (Alan for Stuart's father). In the blessing, Stuart blessed Seth to be able to understand the Atonement of Jesus Christ and to take advantage of the Atonement. He also blessed him to be able to be a good influence and to appreciate the women in his life. Also, to be able to receive all the ordinances necessary to live with Heavenly Father again someday. I had a hard time paying attention because I got so emotional but it was beautiful, simple, and perfect.
