When I picked up the car from the mechanic, I was SO happy to have it back and fixed. That is, until I filled it up with gas. After that, the infamous "check engine" light lit up! I had heard to open and close the gas cap, but after doing that 5 times, we figured it had nothing to do with pressure in our gas tank. So, Stuart took the car to Auto Zone and they used the little thing-a-ma-jig to determine that we need a new o2 sensor AND a new knock sensor (to those of you who, like myself, are car illiterate, you are welcome for the links).
Those nice guys at AutoZone gave Stuart the prices on Oxygen and Knock sensors:
o2 Sensor $159.99
Knock Sensor: $29.99
Um, now would be the perfect time for some long lost relative millionaire to tell us that because we are doing everything we are supposed to and working towards financial freedom that they'd love to give us a hundred grand... :)
LUCKILY, my dad can replace an o2 sensor, and hopefully the knock sensor. HOPEFULLY, it is not the catalytic converter, which I seen range from $60-$250. (Our gas mileage has suddenly dropped from 33 mpg to about 11...:()
What was I saying about feeling like an adult?!

Sorry about your car. We took mine into the shop last fall and then the dreaded "check engine" light came on when we got home--but lucky for us, it was just the gas cap, as confirmed by AutoZone. With the price of gas these days, I am thinking we should all just go back to horses and covered wagons anyway, and be done with cars....
